Expose and bond is a surgical procedure often performed as part of orthodontic treatment when a tooth, commonly a canine, is impacted and unable to erupt into the correct position on its own. At South Florida Institute of Oral Surgery, this procedure is completed with precision and in coordination with the patient’s orthodontist to help guide the tooth into its proper place within the arch.
Bracket, Chain and Controlled Traction
The procedure involves carefully exposing the impacted tooth and attaching a small orthodontic bracket or chain so that controlled traction can be applied over time. This coordinated approach allows the orthodontist to help move the tooth gradually into alignment while preserving the natural tooth whenever possible.
