The Deepest Level of Sedation
General anesthesia provides the deepest level of sedation and is used in cases where full unconsciousness is appropriate for the procedure or the patient’s needs. It may be recommended for more complex surgeries, extensive treatment plans, or specific situations where a fully controlled environment is most beneficial.
Completely Asleep for the Procedure
Under general anesthesia, the patient is completely asleep for the procedure. This allows treatment to be performed without awareness or discomfort and can be especially important in cases involving advanced jaw surgery, complex reconstruction, or other significant surgical needs.
Considered Only When Clinically Appropriate
At South Florida Institute of Oral Surgery, general anesthesia is considered carefully and only when clinically appropriate. Patient safety, medical history, procedure complexity, and overall treatment goals all play a role in determining whether this option is recommended.
